The male will kick sand from or kick sand back again on the very best with the mound to maintain the mound in a consistent temperature.  This pile, according to the heat from the day, can include 5-8 a ton of sand/vegetation.  Upon hatching the chicks dig their approach to the surface with the mound, go into the comb and can run quick and fly
